Abstract

The aim of my essay was to follow up the linguistic development of a highly functioning autistic child who lives with autism, and to reveal her developmental phases, comparing these with normal lingual development. Spontaneous speech and the results of the tests show that the lingual development of a highly functioning autistic child and a healthy child is different. The autistic child’s speech development is belated and shows leeway, her lingual development is not smooth, it sometimes stands still and even declines during the process. Consequently lingual and social development plays an important part also in case of highly functioning autism, both in everyday life and in stagnating developmental phases.
