Abstract

The metallogenic province of Banat represents one of the most interesting mineralization zones of the European continent. The present work represents the first attempt to classify all of the ore deposits of Banat from the plate-tectonic viewpoint, taking into consideration the tectonomagmatic premises which defined the structure of the thin Carpathian section. The superposition of the Alpine metallogeny over the Protezoroic-Paleozoic basement is primarily responsible for the complexity and the diversity of the mineralization of the Banat metallogenic province. The suggested classification separates the Banat into two subprovinces, which are : — The Old-Carpathian province, with Proterozoic and Paleozoic ensimatic ore deposits. — The Laramide province of banatites, with porphyry copper, iron and copper tactites.
