Abstract
Several Hungarian experts including historians, linguists, archeologists (for example: Gyula László, Dezső Csallány or János Makkay) supposed that Hungarians moved to the Carpatian Basin first in the 5-7t h centuries. But the historical, linguistic and archeological data do not corroborate such an early Hungarian conquest. Péter Király tried to prove that the Hungarians appeared in the Carpatian Basin in the 561/562, and settled down there in the 590 on the basis of the testimony of Latin, Byzantine and Slavic sources. These sources refer to the Avars, Goths and Western-Turks and other nomadic peoples, which Király connected mistakenly to the Hungarians. His interpretation of the sources proving his theory is based on interpolations, anachronisms and erroneous translation, which is enumerated in detail. The sources do not underlie an early Hungarian conquest in the Carpatian Basin in the 5-7t h centuries.
