Abstract
There are two ways of the word-obsolescence in a language. The first one is when a word and all of its derivatives become obsolete, and the second when almost all the members of the word-family became obsolete but one or two derivatives survive. This second case propounds two questions. On the one hand what are the reasons of the obsolescence, on the other hand why did some words of the word-family survive. The duska 'hard drinking' and its derivatives (duskdst duskdzik, duskds, duskdssdg) died out because their meaning and atmosphere became wrong. Only one member (duskdl) is still used because its frequentative meaning 'keep on drinking' makes it possible to consider the -kdl frequentative affix in the word, and because of the meaning of duskdl 'to drink a lot' the word duskdl was connected into the etymological line dús 'rich in sg'.
