Abstract
In 1990s, the appearance of information and communicational technologies weakened the importance of geographical distance and changed the economic role of proximity, defined as small distance. Geographical proximity plays a crucial role in information and knowledge transfer and in improving the innovative capacity of firms. However, business partners may have successful cooperation in spite of great geographical distances too, due their relational proximity, by using the infocommunication technologies too. Benefiting from the advantages of geographical and relational proximity, clusters form in less developed regions too. Present paper attempts to explore the special characteristics of cluster formations in the software industry in the ‘knowledge isle’ of the less developed Southern Great Plain Region, in Szeged subregion. To map the relevance of the e geographical concentration and the industrial base of a potential software industry in Szeged subregion, it is substantial to count location quotient of employees and enterprises. With the purpose of surveying the fields of cooperation and the strength of relational proximity between software enterprises, a questionnaire is made.
