Abstract
The author does not agree with the common opinion that the ending -ék (Pistá-ék, tanító-ék) should be considered a suffix for derivation. She endeavours to prove that "-ék" word forms are not "collective nouns" but simply nouns in the plural. The -ék ending is the third suffix for the plural in the Hungarian language. The "absolute plural" -k and the "possessive related" -/ are both "homogeneous," expressing multiplication of the denotate (tanító + k = tanító + tanító f+ tanító...]; tanító + i = tanítója + tanítója [+ tanítója...]), while -ék expresses a "heterogeneous" additive plurality, denoting an identified person and his/her family/friends/company: thus tanító + -ék = a tanító + a társ a fi).
