Abstract
The paper discusses three types of repetition and their respective semantic representations. The habitual can be expressed by stage-level predicates and never by individual-level predicates. It is claimed that, in general, statives are not stage-level predicates, hence they cannot have a habitual reading. The second type of repetition is the iterative, which denotes the more or less regular repetition of an event. It is expressed by the suffix -gat/-get, which can be attached to activity and accomplishment verbs, but not to verbs denoting states or achievements. Finally, the third type of repetition is the frequentative, which expresses the irregular repetition of an event. The formal expression of the frequentative is the reduplicated verbal prefix. The frequentative has to meet certain phonological and semantic constraints.
