Abstract
The author presents the Mordovian colour verbs that can be formed by construction or derivation. Colour verbs formed by derivation can be essential, translative and factitive. By further derivation, these verbs can be changed into frequentative, inchoative, factitive and from the factitive we can derive passive-reflective verbs. In Mordovian, there are more colour verbs formed from old basic colour terms. It is only the older colour terms that are capable of forming constructions with verbs like M якстерхт модеме, E якстерть меремс 'look / shine red'. Using the productive suffix M -год, -код-, E -гад-, -кад-, it is possible to derive colour verbs even from the newer colour terms.
