Abstract
The paper presents the methodological problems of phonemic reconstruction in Uralistics. Illustrations are taken from the inventory of consonants, i.e. the systematic correspondences of the initial consonants are concerned. The final conclusion is that a proto-form is acceptable if one and the same form is postulated by the ascending and descending way of reconstruction as well.
