Abstract
The first half of the lecture reflects on deviance itself, the linking points of the studies in the fields of subcultures and contemporary music in Hungárián sociological literature, and alsó looks into the scientific implementation opportunities of these links, as well as attempts to outline a few of the most important theoretical problems associated with this topic. The second half of the lecture will investigate the social values, norms, discursive concepts of ideology in connection with deviance, their representation in the 'commercial' press and Public Media as well as in the world of online blogs - all through the medium of an analysis of a recent event. This case study investigates the tragic events that took place in January 2011 at the West Balkán dance hall in Budapest, the disclosure of the incident; furthermore, it evaluates several elements of the morál panic arising in the official and public média following the occurrence-in connection with the concept of deviance- as well as comparing and contrasting these elements with those of other social discussions related to party culture, youth and (sub)cultures based on music genres.
