Abstract
The paper considers Peter Vajda's „Dalhon" („Country of Song") as a sort of poetic utopy showing the two main characteristics of this genre: critical approach to contemporary society and the main outlines and basic principles of a better future society. „Dalhon", this strange work composed of quite a number of different genres all written in rhytmical prose, was published in four parts betweeh 1839 and 1844. From 1844 to his death in 1846 Vajda published mostly satirical pieces in newspapers which can't be considered as the continuatin of „Dalhon". But in 1857 a sequence of 20 parts was published — we do not know where the editor Imre Vahot got them from — which is the continuation of „Dalhon" in the same beautiful rhytmical prose. This forgotten work of Vajda's is published here.
