Abstract

The spread of invasive species means a serious ecological problem worldwide. The modified environmental conditions in the cities significantly influence (mostly impair) the urban vegetation. In these circumstances, invasive species with a wide ecological tolerance enjoy a significant advantage. In our study, the possible spreading factors of the Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima) were examined on the example of Szeged (Hungary). The survey was based on the Local Climate Zone (LCZ) system. Several important characteristics of urban space parameters were processed, such as potential direct irradiation, the land cover and the urban heat island. We found not too strong correlation for example between the land cover type or the heat island intensity in June and the number of trees.
