Abstract
A klasszika-filológusok nyelvészethez való viszonyulása ellentmondásos. Nem ritka az a felfogás, hogy a nyelv csak szabályok és ragozási táblázatok rendszere, hogy megértsük a szöveget. Ugyanakkor a nyelvészet (főként a szemantika és a pragmatika) a filológia számára mást is felkínál: olyan általános jellegű jelenségeket, amelyeket sok nyelvre kiterjedőnek tekinthetünk, így a latinban is meg lehet vizsgálni. Ezek a jelenségek a szövegek értelmének bizonyos aspektusaira vonatkozóan nagy segítséget nyújthatnak. Jelen tanulmány arra tesz kísérletet, hogy egy szemantikai fogalmat, a faktivitást felhasználva megvilágítsa Cicero Catilina elleni első beszédének eredeti latin változatán, valamint magyar és angol fordításain keresztül, hogy egy-egy ilyen típusú elemzés nagyban hozzásegíthet egy szöveghez közelibb interpretációhoz. Classical philology has a controversial relation with linguistics. Among philologists, it is not unheard to think of language as a mere system of rules and inflection charts needed to understand the text. On the other hand, linguistics (especially semantics and pragmatics) can offer a different point of view to classical philology: solutions to general problems that are present in most languages and therefore they could be analysed in Latin as well. These could provide further insight to the interpretation of these texts. This paper attempts to show how the understanding of the factivity as one of the phenomenons of semantics can facilitate an interpretation closer to the text, through analysing Cicero’s speeches against Catiline in the original Latin version and English and Hungarian translations.
