Abstract
Tanulmányomban a Iuvenalis szatíráira jellemző műfaji sokszínűséget elemző kutatásom egy részeredményét mutatom be. E témát átfogóan vizsgáló munka mindmáig nem jelent meg, a korábbi vizsgálatok fókuszában az epikus hagyomány iuvenalisi kezelése állt, a többi műfajnak, így az elégiának is, viszonylag kevesebb figyelmet szenteltek. Az antik szatíra, így Iuvenalis irodalomkritikájában az elégia szerepe jelentéktelennek mondható, konkrétan csupán egyszer említi a műfajt életművében, de többször is egyértelműen utal Propertiusra, s felhasználja az ő, illetve Ovidius költeményeit egyes szatíráiban. Természetesen egyes szövegszerű egyezések nem mutatnak túl önmagukon, nem kell mögöttes költői szándékot keresnünk a hátterükben, más párhuzamok viszont határozott mondanivalóval bírnak. Ezeket a párhuzamokat együttesen áttekintve az elégiaköltészet iuvenalisi felhasználása mögött egy egységes költői koncepció rajzolódik ki, mely tökéletesen illeszkedik az életmű egészébe. In this paper, I present one aspect of my research on the mixture of genres in Juvenal’s Satires. Until now, there have not been any comprehensive works published on this topic; previous studies have mainly focussed on Juvenal’s treatment of the epic tradition, while the other genres, among them the elegy, have received much less attention so far. The role of the elegy is negligible in the literary criticism of the ancient satire as well as in Juvenal’s works: he mentions the genre only once; however, he refers to Propertius and uses his and Ovid’s texts in the Satires. Some of these textual parallels, of course, have no secondary meanings, and we don’t have to discover any poetic intentions in their backgrounds, while other parallels have significance in the interpretation of a given locus. Examining these parallels and allusions together, we can show the existence of a coherent poetical concept behind Juvenal’s use of the elegiac tradition that fits well into his whole œuvre.
