Abstract
Lesser known the fact, that the town and fortress of Belgrade has twice changed hand during the First World War, in December of 1914 and October of 1915. The united armies of Austria–Hungary and Germany twice took into possession the former „White City”, the modern capital town of Serbia, Belgrade. Between the short period of the two siege, John Reed, the well known American war correspondent and journalist, was in the town, however in his reportage („Belgrade under the Austrian Guns”) he could show – from inner and more dramatic perspective – the lives of inhabitants and the bombardment of the town and adds important contribution to the prehistory of the last siege of Belgrade in the 20th century.
