Abstract
In this paper we use the discourse analysis as theoretical framework to discuss the renowned Octavio Paz’s essay, The labyrinth of solitude. Although there are many studies that have been made about this theme which are mainly based on the history of ideas and the philosophy of the culture, in this case we propose a different perspective which focuses on the linguistic features that are used to construct the subject of enunciation in the literary essay. We consider Émile Benveniste’s concepts of his theory of enunciative operations in order to reveal the different positions that the author takes in the text, as well as how he constructs his reader. En este trabajo se toma al análisis del discurso como marco teórico para estudiar la reconocida obra de Octavio Paz, El laberinto de la soledad. Aunque se han hecho muchos estudios sobre el tema realizados principalmente bajo la lupa de la historia de las ideas, los estudios literarios y la filosofía de la cultura, aquí se propone un análisis de las formas lingüísticas con las que se construye el sujeto de la enunciación en el ensayo literario. Tomamos los conceptos acuñados por Émile Benveniste en su teoría de la enunciación y a partir de ello se intenta develar las posiciones que toma el autor en el texto, así como la manera en que éste construye a su lector.
