Abstract
Those men and women who offend against the Sixth Commandment were disapproved in all communities, the church law and secular law inflicted a senous pumshment on them. The fomicating and adulterous people could have been fined, flogged, expelled from the city or put in the pillory. Their actions were recorded not only in the city or the canonical visitat.on minutes, but their sins and, in most cases, the conceived children got into the register of births, mamages and deaths. This study examines the cases registered in the Lutheran register of mamages and chnstening of Cselnek- there were bachelors, married men, widowers, soldiers, nobles, locals and foreigners among the immoral men. Their partners were seduced f.ancées, widows, foreigners, nobles married women, army-wives and strumpets. Together with the chnstenmg the children conceived in sin got the mark of the vicars and the community, which the parents could have elim.nated only by their marriage. From the middle of the 1780s, the vicars of Csetnek regarded the children, who were conceived out of wedlock but were born affér the weddmg of the parents, as legitimate children.
