Abstract

Brasil: everything for sport, nothing for people?: In my study, I introduce the kind of economic and social background Brasil ordered about to transact such an event. The 20th FIFA World Cup was organized by Brasil in 2014. The country had to built the stadions and establish the infrastructure. Brasil organized a championship of very high quality, expenditure of which proved to be much higher than the 19th World Cup in the Republic of South Africa. It required an economic investment of high level. Although these championships seem to be profitable for the organizers, people of Brasil organized a demonstration in the twelve host cities. They thought that the state had neglected its social duties and all resources had been invested in the World Cup. In conclusion, I can say that this event has positive and negative consequences. On one hand, the championship was beneficial for the tourism and created new workplaces, on the other, the GDP of Brasil fell by 0.6 %. Furthermore, the country came to a recession.
