East-Central European dynastic relations in light of the Congress of Visegrád: This paper deals with the changes and formations of dynastic relations during the first half of the 14th century, between the countries that attended the Congress of Visegrád (1335). This congress was a link of a great importance among the three East-Central European kingdoms: Hungary, Poland and Bohemia, as after the uncertainty of month-to-month and year-to-year changing alliances, they finally managed to establish the foundations for more of a long-term system. Despite the unfavourable inner circumstances, these three kingdoms soon formed a stable point in East-Central Europe. We can say that this congress was an important historic momentum, as it was in the spirit of this occasion, that these countries signed the Visegrád Declaration over 600 years later. How did these countries of unfavourable circumstances manage to rise and be a defining force in the area? What was the significance of this Central European alliance? What interests did they have as their guiding principles, what were they forced to sacrifice on the altar of cooperation? Why did the power relations change from one day to the other and what kind of politics did Hungary, tipping the scales, pursue to reinforce its position? No comprehensive work that would unfold the meaning hidden between the lines of the charters has been done about this congress yet. This paper seeks to synthesize the contemporary and subsequent sources, as well as the relevant literature. The intent is to unravel the entangled web of dynastic relations, and to present it in an easy-to-understand manner through the unfolding of cause-effect settings. The paper's goal is to provide a complex picture about the interests hidden behind the congress.
