Abstract
Few elements of Western European Weapons in the Carpatian Basin: Settlement of the Magyars in Carpathian Basin began the Hungarian integration in the Western Europe. The Hungarians changed their religion, society and armour. In my study I introduce 3 elements of Western European armour in Carpathian Basin (double edged sword, winged spear and winged churn axe). This weapons appeard in the reign of prince Géza (972–997). He set up a new central army. This army wasn’t depend on the tribal leaders’ armies. Géza’s army used the new type weapons. The warriors trained by German knights. The archeologycal sites where found Western European weapons often are near by fords or flows. It seems the warriors of the regal army secured the more important trade routes. The armour’s change was a slowly process. In this time in Poland and Eastern Europe appeard too these weapons. In those areas used by viking mercenaries. In Carpathian Basin the new types weapons used Hungarian, because their graves don’t differe from other graves in Carpathian Basin. The archeologist didn’t find yet chain-mail, shield boss or helmet in the Hungarian warriors’ graves. This shows the Hungarians in the end of 10th century didn’t become heavy-cavalry, they stay light-cavalry.
