Abstract

In this paper I primarily lean ont he Ph.D. thesis of Erzsébet Dolch written in 1938 with the tittle of Az Új Nevelés elméleti és gyakorlati megvalósulásai (The theoretical and practical fulfiment of the New Training), together with the case study of Béla Pukánszky written about Erzsébet Dolch, and Emma Löllbach’s and Edit Blaskovich’s creation with the title of Az alkotó munka az Új Iskolában (The constructive labour in the New School), as well as several studies. I aim to reveal the methodologic basis of the Kerti Iskola (Garden School) of Újszeged, which worked between 1936 and 1940 and was run by Erzsébet Dolch, by analyzing the reform pedagogic conceptions having an effect on this institution. The school was established and supported by the psychologist Dezsõ Várkonyi, and it functioned as a practice school of the Pedagogic – Psychological Department of the Franz Joseph University of Szeged. The first base in analyzing was the Új Iskola (New School) of Emma Löllbach and the Családi Iskola (Family School) of Márta Müller, because these two institutions served as a basis for the Kerti Iskola (Garden School). After investigating the three schools I made comprision on the basis of different aspects. I contrasted their basic principles, main objectives, their teaching methods and other pedagogic innovations. In this way, the similarities between them became clear and I can arrive at a conclusion about the origin of the methods of the Kerti Iskola (Garden School). As a result we can say that the examined pedagogic methods of the Kerti Iskola (Garden School) are roughly the same as the methods of the Családi Iskola (Family School) or the Új Iskola (New School). Beyond that we can come to the conclusion that Ovide Decroly had an influence on the Kerti Iskola (Garden School) and it became obvious which methods of him reached the istitution through the Családi Iskola (Family School) and which ones through the Új Iskola (New School). In this way we can find correlations about the origin of the methodological structure of the Kerti Iskola (Garden School) in other time horizon as well.
