Abstract

Although more and more companies have their own website, most of these never become profitable. The main problem arises from that the possibilities are not understood by decision makers. In this paper the author shows his own experiences about what possibilities companies may have in the internet and how to exploit them. There are several methods to choose from including link exchange, direct e-mails, online advertisements, search engine optimization and social networks. While there is still debate among researchers in this topic, the author tries to clarify which methods of increasing attendance and make a website profitable work well and which are not. Different methods may be used successfully in different stages of the lifecycle of websites. A multi-site strategy is introduced to achieve long-term success. The main idea behind this strategy is to create more websites, where each of them is search optimized for a given keyword.
