En este trabajo se intenta explicar y justificar por qué en la tradición de la enseñanza de ELE en Hungría está tan arraigada la idea de conceder una importancia primordial al componente gramatical. Aprovechando el ejemplo del uso de los tiempos verbales del pretérito, se presentan problemas relacionados con la asimilación de este segmento de la gramática española por parte de alumnos húngaros, así como algunos de los elementos estratégicos que pueden resultar útiles en el proceso de adquisición. Sin cuestionar los avances de las metodologías focalizadas en la función comunicativa de lenguaje y la aplicación de elementos de aprendizaje inductivos y deductivos, se desea resaltar que el componente gramatical tiene su lugar en la enseñanza de ELE, aunque no tenga la misma función que en los inicios de la enseñanza de idiomas. The present paper aims to explain and justify why giving grammar a major role in Spanish as a foreign language teaching is a deeply rooted practice in the SFL tradition in Hungary. Taking the different uses of the past tenses in Spanish as main example, a series of issues related to the learning of these tenses by Hungarian learners are presented in this article, along with a number of strategies that might be useful for their assimilation. Not willing to question the steps forward of the teaching approaches centered on the communicative use of language and the implementation of inductive and deductive teaching elements, the aim here is to highlight that grammar has a place of its own in SFL teaching, even if it is not the same role it had at the dawn of language teaching.
