Abstract
On October 27th, 1439, a new era began, but it wasn't yet possible to predict that the problem of Albert's inheritance repels the country in a civil war. On the one side the king's wife Elizabeth of Luxembourg and her son, the infant V. Ladislaus the Posthumous, who was just a few months old, for a while on the other side, the the 16-year-old Polish King Vladislaus III the Jagiellonian (is known in Hungarian as Vladislaus I.), invited by the Hungarian orders to the throne. Soon after the began a long-running political and armed struggle for the throne of the country. At this point, Dénes Szécsi appears on the stage of history, who is the late medieval Kingdom of Hungary's most prestigious and one of the most powerful aristocratic family was from the Balog genus family of Szécsi. Thanks to his family background, he studied at the best-known foreign universities – Vienna, Padua and Bologna. After returning home, he was promoted to a cardinal on 18 December 1439 at the request of the Queen. He became archbishop of Esztergom on 8 January 1440. In this capacity, he crowned the infant Ladislaus the Posthumous with the Holy Crown of Hungary on 15 May 1440. However, shortly after he joined the league of Vladislaus I, whom he crowned on 17 July 1440 with a crown from Saint Stephen's reliquary. In recognition of his merits, between 1449–1464, he was also a royal chancellor, who should actively participate in the development of political life in addition to ecclesiastical affairs. Matthias Corvinus was crowned by him on 1464. Overall, it is concluded that the death of Albert King and Matthias Corvinus accession to throne varied between politically significant development of the period in the long run and launched a process, which is to a large extent the future changed the country's destiny.
