Abstract

Nowadays there are large regional differences in the educational level of the Hungarian population by regions and settlement hierarchy. The educational level is higher in the towns, and also in the agglomeration of Budapest, the area near the Danube, in the industrial area of CentralTransdanubia, in the industrial area near Miskolc and Pécs and in the touristical area near Lake Balaton. Settlements near the large higher educational centres have also higher educational level. The population of the zones with small villages of the hilly areas of Hungary and the zone with tanya-s (scattered farms) of the Alföld (Eastern Hungary) have lower educational level.
