In the last decades anomalies could be recognized in the land use of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve adjusting more or less to production site conditions. Ever greater proportion of wetlands formed in water-saturated production sites, utilized earlier as grassland or reed farming which nowadays are replaced by the more intensive human use, mostly by arable lands. Natural and nearnatural habitats occuring islandwise in the matrix of slowly expanding ploughlands, vineyards, orchards. Growing afforested areas can thank their survival primarily to the unfavourable and „extreme” conditions for agricultural cultivation, but they are also recently endangered because of the irrational land use. Since the early ’70s groundwater-level decrease has played an important role in ploughings, too. The location of water-saturated production sites (hydromorphic soils) and wetlands, the utiliziation of the water-saturated production sites with unfavourable conditions and the occurence of land-use conflict areas were exemined by the application of GIS (Geographical Information System) within a pilot area located in the central part of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve near to Kecskemét.
