Abstract
Resumen: Este ensayo estudia el reflejo del cambio político en Hungría en las páginas del diario catalán Avui. Su objetivo no es reconstruir el proceso del cambio a través de la prensa catalana, sino analizar la forma en que los periodistas presentaron y trataron de explicar al público lector -que en general sabía poco o nada de Hungría- lo que estaba ocurriendo. Consecuentemente el énfasis caerá más sobre el “cómo” y menos sobre el “qué”. Asimismo, se examinaron los recursos lingüísticos, visuales, etcétera, que fueron utilizados con tal fin por el diario y se acompaña un análisis sobre la resultante imagen de Hungría. El estudio también resalta los acontecimientos y contactos bilaterales durante el período en cuestión, con la idea de contribuir a la investigación del desarrollo de las relaciones. Los diarios catalanes utilizados provienen de la sección prensa digitalizada del Archivo Histórico del Ayuntamiento de Gerona. Palabras clave: Hungría, España, cambio democrático, encuentros bilaterales, modelo español Abstract: This paper examines the way in which the political change that took place in Hungary at the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s, was reflected on the pages of the Catalan daily, Avui. The aim of the investigation is not to reconstruct the course of the change itself via the Catalan press, but to analyse the means used by the journalists to describe and explain to their readers what was happening in Hungary, a country about which they knew little or nothing at all. Consequently, the emphasis is set more on ‘how’, and less on ‘what’. Linguistic, visual and other resources used to that end by the daily are also explored. This is complemented by an analysis on the resulting image of Hungary in Avui. The paper also highlights bilateral events and contacts, with the aim of contributing to the investigation of the development of relations between Spain and Hungary. The Catalan diaries used are accessible in the digital press section of the Historic Archive of the Municipality of Gerona.
