Abstract
Following the Peace Treaty of Trianon there were significant changes in the field of minority educational policy in response to the altered minority situation. The aim of the study is to highlight the different stages of this process and its legal framework by analysing the educational situation of the largest ethnic minority in Hungary, the German. The study also wants to find the reasons for the question why the different types of educational institutions of the country did not reflect the proportions of ethnic minorities in the Hungarian population. This happened despite the fact that the ethnic minorities counted for about ten percent of the population of the remaining country and their educational rights were secured at an even higher level on the basis of the 4800/1923. M. E. regulation about the protection of ethnicminorities than it was required by the Peace Treaty of Trianon.
