Abstract
With the collapse of the Türk Khaganate II there formed a new geopolitical situation in the Eurasian region controlled by the former empire: in the east from Altay the Uyghur taking on the Türk legacy consolidated power, while in the west new nomadic powers — Kharluks, Kimeks, Oghuzs and Pechenegs — were establishing their power on the ruins of the former Western Türk Empire. We know some hypothetical conflict between the Pechenegs and Oghuzs in this period. But I myself have the opinion that the most of the supposed wars between Oghuz and the Pechenegs cannot be proved with adequate certainty. Perhaps the Oghuz might have had a role in making the Pechenegs in the middle of the VIII century leave their settlement in the Upper Irtysh area. However, neither in the first half of the IX century, nor in the middle we have no data on the batdes between the Oghuz and Pechenegs. These hypothetical conflicts result from the inaccurate geographical localization and interpretation of certain sources. On the contrary of this, the Oghuz occupation of Volga—Ural area occupied by the Pechenegs is certain to be recorded and dated in 893—894. It is unlikely, however, that the Oghuz offensive against the Pechenegs was carried out in alliance with the Khazars — the Khazars probably played only a passive participant role in the birth of Oghuz great power.
