Abstract

The aim of this paper to present the Crusade of 1101 and to analyse the results of this campaign. In addition the paper focuses on Kilij Arslan's military role during the operations of the First Crusade. It is fair to speak about one of the most enormous enterprises of the medieval age when we are talking about the Crusades. Kihj Arslan encountered with this monstrous campaign when the First Crusade arrived in Anatolia. From my point of view, despite the fact that the first Princes' Crusade successfully broke through in Asia Minor and occupied Jerusalem, we cannot talk about Western European military supremacy during the age of the First Crusade. The Seljuk-Turkish forces achieved success against the People's Crusade and the second Princes' Crusade under the command of Kilij Arslan. Even though he was defeated by the first Princes' Crusade, his outstanding performance against the campaign of 1101 was decisive regarding the political future of the Crusading States and the Holy Land.
