In this short study we aim to present the research history of the genealogy of the Árpád dynasty who lived during the 11th and 12th Century. The genealogical research of the Árpáds can be dated back to the 18th Century when the Hungarian historiography begun to use the scientific methods. This is quite a long time, however the source material was and is today very scarce. It is based mosdy on narrative sources, a few charters and a small amount of foreign necrologies. Therefore a multitude of theories have been published in the secondary literature to solve some problematic family relationships. Mosdy these theories can also be traced back to the initial period of the Hungarian historiography. During the years these sometimes clearly uncertain hypotheses were published through articles, studies and syntheses. It is almost impossible to review all the publications that have been produced in this nearly 200 years of research. To solve this problem we would like to offer a methodical solution that basically calls for the support of the modem technology, namely for the possibilities of the structured database. Today the historiography aims more and more for the solutions of the information technology. It is suffice to refer to the more and more accelerated pace of the digitalisation process, through the contemporary sources and documents are accessible for everyone. There are also a quite wide range of historical research projects which can handle complete prosopographical and genealogical databases. During this study we try to pinpoint all the be-nefits that a database like this can offer both in research and in education.
