Dolgozatomban az alföldi pusztaság festője, Koszta József leánygyermek-ábrázolásainak gyermekkép-történeti szempontú elemzésére vállalkozom, abból a célból, hogy rávilágítsak az archaikus paraszti társadalom körében élő gyermekkép néhány lényeges vonására, a leánygyermekeket övező gyermekségkonstrukciókat illetően. Az elemzések során mindenekelőtt a néprajzi szakirodalom megállapításaiból indulok ki, összevetve azokat a képi ábrázolás körében tapasztaltakkal. A szemlék során kompozícióelemzési, tartalom-leírási, antropológiai szempontokat egyaránt érvényesítek, hogy mindezek nyomán aztán következtetéseket tehessek a gyermekképre vonatkozóan. Így a látottak (kor, nem, elhelyezkedés, kompozícióban betöltött szerep, tevékenység) leírásán túl rögzítésre kerülnek a szociokulturális kontextusra utaló jelek (tárgyi-fizikai környezet: táj, enteriőr, ruházat) is, illetve mindezek után tehetünk következtetéseket a már kislánykorban érlelődőben lévő,a leányideállal kapcsolatos értékekre, magatartásbeli elvárásokra vonatkozóan. In my thesis I analyze seventeen pieces of József Koszta's paintings, which depict peasant girls. My goal is to analyse the idea of the child in a rural society in an archaic state; I strive to create parallels between the ethnography and the history of childhood concepts. I try to make my thesis more sophisticated by using the methods of iconography and iconology (Erwin Panofsky). My thesis based on previous researches and monographs about the educational habits of rural life (for example Márta Fügedi, Éva Bodovics, Zita Deáky), the iconography of the history of childhood (for example János Géczi, Katalin Kéri, Orsolya Endrődy-Nagy) and my previous studies (for example: parent-child relationship in Szolnok painting, 1880-1920; Working girls in Szolnok painting, 1880-1920). I consider the aspects of the content-description, the composition analysis, the pedagogical antropology and the history of the idea of the child in order to make conclusions with regard the idea of the child. At first I depict the outward appearances (age, gender, location, interaction, activity), after that I collect the signs which refer to the sociocultural situation (material environment: landscape, interiors, clothing), finally I make conclusions regard to the educational values and behavior components, which are associated to the image of the ideal girl and woman. Koszta was a master of creating melancolical atmosphere and he expressed his own world by his paintings (he was a representative of expressive realism). His paintings depict hard rural life and the lifestyle of peasants at that time, therefore his paintings don't show the joyful moments of childhood, but he present the aspects and motives which make children and become quiet and resigned women. Koszta's portraits depict the strict order of archaic rural life, where the main educational values were obedience, dependence, humility and meekness. The main motives and attributes which refer to this fate and these values: a rooster, a vase, a geranium, a glass, an adult-sized chair, the posture, gaze and gestures.
