Abstract
POLITICAL PARTY PREFERENCES AND VOTING BASES IN SZEGED, 2000-2001 : In this paper the author examines Szeged, the voting basis of the two largest Hungarian political parties, the Hungarian Socialist Party, and the Alliance of Young Democrats. For this comparative sociological inquiry he uses the empirical data of the Szeged Studies 2000 and 2001 surveys.In the first part of the paper, the author reviews the main theories of party preference research, and the most important empirical research con¬ducted in this field. In the second part, he analyses the voting bases, based on the survey data.H e came to the conclusion that voting bases in Szeged are changing from time to time, but there are „constant” political ruptures, which dis¬tinguish the bases clearly, (email: ngd@freemail.hu)
