Abstract
The article deals with a new institutional form, the spiritual or ecclesial family, recently given official recognition by the Catholic Church, focusing on the forms of association arising from the particular organisational structure. Through the example of young religious communities founded in France and Spain and also established in Hungary, we can gain an insight into what it means today to live as a member of a spiritual community on both the practical and spiritual levels. The study shows the personal desires, experiences and commitments to faith that guide the lives of community members, and how their personal and community identity is shaped by the various forms of connection.
