Abstract
Parallel Loyalties. Habsburg loyalty, patriotic and Jewish allegiance in the Jewish public discourse in Hungary This article’s aim is to give a first answer to the question if the concept of loyalty is of any heuristic value in the study of Hungarian Jewish history, and if so, what exactly can be explained with its help. After a short overview of the recent use of the concept in scholarly works of history and sociology, the author of this article highlights some cases of competing loyalty and their press coverage in the Neolog Jewish weekly Egyenlőség (Equality)and comes to the conclusion that the concept merits further and deeper examination.
