Abstract
This case study aims to describe how middle class people saw the weekdays of WW1 in the army with a special focus on the question of civil life, relaying on the correspondence of the Ladics family from Gyula.Based on the letters written by the two soldiers of the family, Tomas and George, it can be confirmed that behind the weekdays of the front the main ambition of the warriors wasto save as much as possible from their civil life. The home packets whit full of good foods and clothes to make up the army’s allowance, the methods of pastime like reading books and newspapers, playing cards, taking photographs or even having parties with champagne and gramophone etc. all served this basic ambition.
