Abstract
The author discusses the events in Izsák, Bács-Kiskun county, that took place during the Great War, based on the Historia Domus of the Roman Catholic parish in the village of Izsák. The source material cited in the paper presents the tendencies of economic, social and political changes that transpired due to the outbreak of WW1 and to the permanent state of warfare that followed. This source is a contemporary Catholic ecclesiastic manuscript from Izsák.In 1914, the populace of the village welcomed the outbreak of the war and the general mobilization. However, as men were absent from agricultural production next year, the resulting loss of income brought social tensions to the surface and posed serious issues for local authorities. By 1917, the long war and the great human, material and emotional losses that followed caused a general discontent in the public of Izsák, as well as everywhere in the country. A manifestation of this was that the people of Izsák practically stormed the village hall in May 1917 and smashed in its windows, just as the windows of the notary’s home.
