Abstract
Péter Monos (1893-1945) is a countryman from Kölese who fought all through the First World War. He formulated his experiences about life and the war into stories written in verse. He married after the war, but lost his wife early. With the help of his brother, who had emigrated earlier, he went to the United States where he worked as a miner. He wrote poems about his everyday life, his wishes, and his plans. After returning to his mother country, Hungary, he remarried and worked as a gendarme. The present study analyzes only the poems of his manuscripts written in America. His poems written in America depict a world until that time unknown for him, the difficulties of adaptation, a new cultural environment and new cuisine. He uses several Hunglish words. Formally, he writes his poems in a metre with 12 syllables for a line with a caesura. He uses interesting images. Some of his texts are very close to news poems.
