Abstract
Endrőd is situated in Eastern Hungary and it is surrounded by a huge land with farmsteads. Part of the farmland has gained its independency under the name of Hunya. The author discusses the types of the monuments of the area (wood, stone, cast iron crucifixes; bell tower; chapels) originating from the 19th and 20th centuries, their functions (cemetery crucifix, boundary mark, protective function, expression of gratitude, school crucifix), as well as the process through which they have changed in time and space and the customs that are connected to the crucifixes.
