Abstract
As part of the treaties of the Paris peace conference, the Trianon Treaty signed between Hungary and the Allies after the First World War in 1920 dismembered the state of Hungary as well as the Hungarian Calvinist Church. The torn away parts of the church were ceremonially reunited on 22 May 2009 in Debrecen. The article investigates the part this union and the derived concept of unity play in the reconfiguration of Calvinist identity. The chief method is a discourse analysis of the ecclesiastical communication and representation. The main conclusion is that the ecclesiastical elite formed the feast of alliance in a way that the participants shall recognise the manifestation of transcendent. The new, annually recurring ecclesiastical feast created to commemorate this occasion (the day of Calvinist Unity) tries to reinforce this interpretation of unity and to base the new identity of Calvinist communities on this.
