Abstract
In the countries of the European Union 2010 was the "European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion". As the research theme of my doctoral dissertation was linked to the Franciscan Third Order, this EU decision encouraged me to examine the Order from the angle of their social activity and then to present the secular and monastic communities operating in Hungary in the course of the 20th century. The systematic processing of the available sources on the history of the Order in Hungary is still far from complete, very little has been published on the subject in Hungarian and little of anything published abroad is readily accessible in Hungary. My article begins with a brief historical overview, followed by a short presentation of the 20th century communities, illustrating their secular services with concrete examples.
