The Islamic State – the caliphate – is one of the main challenges the international community has to face nowadays. Since the creation of the organization in June 2014, it has been standing stable and using the most modern tools to protect its interests, territory and people. It tries to control our whole world with enormous determination. The quantity and the results of its propaganda activity are terrifying and also thought-provoking. We can be sure that this is so far the biggest challenge this world has ever experienced. I chose this topic as my research topic because it is something totally new and the world itself was not prepared for it: it exceeds every level of organization seen before and it has brought several new definitions and tactics to the field of international studies. I was eager to know how the pieces mentioned in the media come together in one and how they create the so called Islamic State. In my essay I am looking for the answer to the following questions: how could this organization come into existence so fast, what were those international events which helped its creation, and what is the system in which the Islamic State operates? Then I am introducing the armed forces, the propaganda activity and the tactics of the organization. At the end of my study I am trying to share some suggestions regarding the elimination of the threat caused by the Islamic State. During my work, I pursued fullness, but considering the constant changes and events, this study cannot be totally up-to-date.
