During the summer of 2014, I encountered a case in which two inmates assaulted and sexually abused their third mate who succumbed to the injuries. This was the time when the subject started to interest me as it was inconceivable for me that such a case could happen in a strictly controlled government facility. In my opinion, abuse in prison subculture is a social issue for which a solution is required to be found. The solution should be provided by the law for it was the law that placed the inmates in penal institutions in the first place, and penal institutions are not intended to nurture abuse. Through my research, I concluded that some of the sexual relationships are based on abuse or hierarchical position, while other relationships are consensual. My paper is structured accordingly. It starts with the socialization and hierarchy in prison to explore the cause of abuse. Then it explores the relationships based upon abuse and presents consensuality amongst men constituting the majority of prison population. I also presented sexual relationships amongst women. For literature concerning sexuality amongst inmates detained in Hungarian institutions is scarce, I believe it was necessary to present the global situation through which I have explored several instruments published by global organizations. Based on this, it can be concluded that, globally, the subject matter is explored more extensively. Consequently, it would be necessary for Hungary to uphold the guidelines constructed by global bodies to ensure the success of reintegrating inmates at a later point in time. Increasing the number of penal staff personnel and organizing courses would also be reasonable, allowing them to learn to recognize abuse and prostitution patterns in order to reduce the number of abuses and the possibility of sexual exploitation. It would be necessary to conduct an empirical research in Hungary with the aim to explore the sexual relationships amongst inmates for it would provide a basis upon which it would be possible to implement constructive changes and cater to the needs of people of special cases such as LGBT and victims of sexual abuse.
