Abstract
An essential part of the socio-economic situation and understanding of a given geographical area is the complex knowledge of the population living in the area, even through historical perspectives. The composition, number and religious and ethnic composition of the Population of the territory among the Drava River and the Ormansag also provide excellent ground for further studies. Although the subject is rich, it is worth further work with a fresh and new approach and as a basis for further research. From the decade before the turn of the 20th century to the present day, a number of significant changes have taken place in the ethnic-demographic structure of the population, the reasons for which can be considered as traditional (exodus and resettlement/resettlement) in the same way as the „one child method” whose economic role is worth displaying in itself. Through population changes, the main directions of economic development of Ormansag can be demonstrated, as well as its challenges and limitations over a specified period of time. The most important question is how population changes took place and what economic consequences they had. To demonstrate this, the author compares data on population numbers and compositions taken from the censuses of the period under investigation with the economic characteristics of the periods preceding and following periods showing significant changes in these data.
