Beyond the aid provided in humanitarian crises during unexpected natural disasters or political conflicts on the national level, the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has achieved significant results in the area of international development. In Africa as well as in the Middle East it has implemented several permanent infrastructural development programs which provide access to safe drinking water and basic hygiene services. But why has the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta decided to assume a continuous overseas presence in the feld of international humanitarian development? The aim of this paper was to present and briefly summarize the activities of the Hungarian Order of Malta on the field of refugees, migrants in Africa and in the Middle East.
