Abstract

The tourism of the West-Hungarian area called Őrség is still looking for the best method how to ensure the well-being of the (protected) natural environment, the local community and the guests at the same time. The Őrség, identified with the notions of silence, green, and tranquility, and the wellness associated with the concept of luxury are seemingly mutually exclusive terms. However, after deeper examination it is reasonable to say that the concepts of Őrség and wellness are closer to each other than we might think. In this paper I present, through my own research results, what kind of wellness preferences are manifested in the demand for rural tourism of Őrség. The obtained results could open up a new segment in the development of rural tourism services in the future, depending of the commitment of the professional decision-makers and local communities.
