Absztrakt (kivonat)

After its foundation in 1873 the United States became politically and economically unified during the 19th century. As a result of this dynamic development, it has always been a land of opportunity for the immigrants. During this period, millions of immigrant came from the politically and economically divided Germany to the New World. Their numbers increased from the 1830s. The reason for the popularity of the United States was those who began a new life on the other side of the Atlantic-ocean, wrote letters to their family or friends back home. These reports often painted an overly positive picture of what was experienced in the New World. And by the end of the 19th century the so-called German belt was formed. During the decades in the first half of the 19th century many organizations were created to help the German immigration to the United States. Two of them was for example in 1833 organized Giessen Emigration Society and the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas – so-called Adelsverein – which was founded in 1842. The Giessen Emigration Society was an attempt to realize an idealized and utopian idea. They tried to founding a New Germany on the soil of the United States. This undertaking was a failure, but the Society helped settle five hundred people in Missouri. In contrast the Adelsverein was an organization based on rational principles, primarly economic. These Society represented an effort to establish colonies on Texas soil. In these colonies, which were founded in the Western and Southern part of the United States, the GermanAmericans were engaged in agriculture. In 1847 it was declared bankrupt, the Adelsverein helped the immigration of seven thousand German people.
