Abstract
My research area is the history of Kunszentmárton, my hometown, during the two World Wars, as well as World War II letters, diaries and memoirs of the soldiers of Kunszentmárton. In my presentation, I present the memories of the troops who were captured by the Soviets. These recollections are oral interviews between 1989 and 1991. In addition to the interviews, I also examine a memoir written in 2001 by Béla Bozsik of Kunszentmárton. I present an interview with him in 1991, a memoir, and an adjunct to an interview I made with him in October 2015. A close-up memoir of World War II is a valuable resource. During the interviews, local people recall the daily life of captivity, and give an account of the often adventurous journey home. So my work is based on oral history, which I briefly detail as a source. My hypothesis is that the traumatic experience caused to the Hungarian soldiers during the excruciating years of captivity can be felt during my study. They relate their experiences of them, in great detail.
