Abstract
The aim of this study is to present a special area of Law. A basic, well-known civil law institution stands in the focus of the examination, which is the liability insurance. However during this examination I do not use the general civil law aspects in this study, but I use special, Energy Law aspects, with emphasizing the rulings of Nuclear Law. In case of nuclear installations the operator has the obligation to carry about insurance, or other typed financial cover related to the amount of its nuclear liability. Although the Hungarian State has not got this kind of contracting obligation, it also has the subsidiary obligation in case of existence of this kind of insurance. The essence of liability insurances of nuclear installations is the following: (instead the operator) the insurance undertaking will retains the liability for nuclear damage when the operator has this obligation. To contract a liability insurance is so important, that without this operation of nuclear installations shall not be permitted. In this study I use the definition of nuclear damage as starting point and the regulation of nuclear liability. And after that I deal with the main topic, the liability insurance of nuclear installations in details. I analyse not only the Hungarian regulation, but also some International provisions as well.
