In this essay the author writes about the most important Croatian majesties, the banuses and their part through the Hungarian constitutional life. The Croatian banus was an army-leader, a public administrator, administrator of justice and all of above he was the most powerful majesty of Croatia. In the beginning he took control of three country (Lika, Korbavia, Gács), but later he took the lead of all country. In the 10 th century the banus got the Vicerex (viceroy) title. In the 11`hcentury Zvonimir became king and remaining the only banus who achieved this title. When the Croatian-Hungarian state federation came into existence in 1102, the Hungarian kings kept the banus title. From this time the banus was the regent of the king in Croatia. Then he controlled Slovenia and Dalmatia. The XXX. Act of 1868 covered briefly the banus authority: he was the prime minister of the self governed Croatia. After 1848 the banuses' power weakened. After the fall of the Monarchy the life of the banus title was quiet short, then in 1939 it had been created again. The second World War meant the end of the title. The author focuses on different aspects of the banuses historical role and the importance of the banus in the Croatian and Hungarian constitutional life as well. In the end the author gives an extensive list of the banuses from 1102 till the end of the Monarchy. Through these centuries Hungarian-Croatian history the banus was one of the most important majesty after the Palatinus and the Judge of the Country as the Tripartitum said.
